The low-cost and durable device is aimed at improving the connectivity of some of Peru\u2019s less well-off inhabitants and at boosting the educational chances of students in more remote areas of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Alejandra Carrasco, the CEO of WAWALAPTOP, showed off her company\u2019s product in Lima on Wednesday where she explained the thinking behind the computer.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abI feel that WAWALAPTOP firstly, creates community, and number two, democratises the access of Peruvian students,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u00abThe reality is that many people [in Peru] do not take part in this globalized world and aren&#8217;t actually connected to the world and do not have access to technology, even a desktop computer, so that is where we decided to use technology to create new educational tools,\u00bb she added.<\/p>\n<p>With this simple, wooden laptop the company wants to contribute to the circular economy, making it easy to change broken parts such as the device\u2019s single-board computer.
